This N3N-3 may seem to be racing along, when in reality it just splashed down in water – something which slows a plane down dramatically! By simply using a long lens (560mm here) with a slowish shutter speed (1/60), being close physically to both subject and background, and panning, I made its “slow” landing appear fast. This method only required great handholding, panning, thinking through of background elements (my Z 9 in AAAF took care of focus issues while floating out on platform got me close while talking with pilot about what I needed for making the shot; you too can do it too – just tell yourself “go slowly to show speed”.
