At every iOS update, I find at least one aspect that was working flawlessly prior to being upgraded is no longer as functional – in this instance the Nikon Webcam Utility. This free and impressively user-friendly app enables us to easily connect our Nikon cameras and lenses to our computer, and use them (in particular their lenses) to look our best when “zooming.” My preferred webcam is the Z 30 as it takes up minimal real estate on my desk when used. After installing the Sonoma update and Z 30 firmware update, my Z 30 worked perfectly on my M2 MacBook but not on my M1 iMac. A solution I found that worked was this page from Apple Support; although it may appear daunting at first, it’s actually pretty straightforward; simply copy-paste their line of code into Terminal to access. Do this before rebooting into Recovery Mode which will delete what you cut to paste. My workaround was having the page I linked open on my MacBook and typing directly. Nikon Webcam worked wonderfully as before – back to zooming!
