Sanderlings are beloved shorebirds known for chasing waves back into the sea. While migrating, some establish temporary territories much like those used by grouse and prairie chickens; when on migration they defend these territories against intrusion from other Sanderlings – something I witnessed for decades but could never capture on film until finally being successful lying on Bolivar Flats so now have images showing these non-nice encounters (make sure to view my series below)
