We had seen this individual earlier that day; it appeared it had impact damage to its left wing that was still healing, though flight was fine; it soared comfortably above the surface but its left wing wouldn’t fold into itself at rest. At times it would perch atop a piling like pelicans are wont to do, and its body gesture sent my mind reeling in hilarious ways. At first I thought it was speaking with its imaginary friend about old memories; at another moment it appeared as though it were sniffing their pits ahead of a hot date! These two poses came right after one another; I was taking one photo when the bird switched into another pose – taking my 20fps Z 9 shot when the change happened so as not to miss any funny action; these photos still make me laugh today despite my best attempts!
